History
The
idea of building quality hand built homes in a concentrated fashion
on one location was developed by our founder, Newton Paul Thibodeaux,
of Eunice Louisiana in 1963. Having a college degree in Accounting,
a Real Estate license, and sales experience, Newton tried to incorporate
his education and business experience in building homes and developing
neighborhoods in the Eunice area. After realizing the success potential,
he decided to develop a way to expand his market. Thus the concept
of a home lot, where homes were displayed, purchased, and eventually
moved to the owner's property within a 100 mile radius, was developed.
He began building small affordable homes, with the option of fully complete or
partial, on a large lot in Eunice. The concept was intended to concentrate the
labor force, supply deliveries and management in one location, in order to cut
expenses and decrease construction time. Because of the quality and affordability
of the homes, his idea took off. He soon hired more crews, staff, and sales people
to handle the expanding demand.
Incorporation was the next step, and BAYOU STATE HOMES became incorporated in
1977, and shares were distributed to some of the employees. At one time
in the oilfield boom days, Bayou State Homes Inc. had seven construction crews,
and was building 50 to 60 homes a year, with a best year record of 91 homes.
In 1981, Newton's son N.J."Chip" Thibodeaux, joined the company with
a bachelor's degree in Architecture from L.S.U. and three years experience in
the field of Architecture gained from working in Lafayette, and New Iberia. This
contributed to the company's ability to custom design floor plans for it's customers
and continued the process of company improvement. Chip eventually bought into
the company.
It has been over 30 years and over 1000 homes, since the concept started and
every day we, as a corporation, are constantly striving to satisfy our customers
with the best in quality for an affordable price. We have prepared for customers
and potential customers a home buyer's manual, which is just another example
of the quality care you will get in becoming a new owner of a Bayou State Home.
Thank you! Or as we say around here "merci".
